Your Child Support Might Be Going Up

If you are considering getting divorced in The Woodlands and you or your spouse earn a high income then things are about to get a little bit more expensive when it comes to child support. If there are children of the marriage under the age of 18, then either you or your spouse will almost certainly be paying child support. The amount of child support is determined by a formula defined by the Family Code and relevant case law.

The current cap against which the child support percentages are applied against is $7,500 in monthly net resources. Right now, if you want child support beyond the result of applying the appropriate percentage to the first $7,500 in net monthly resources then your Woodlands Divorce Attorney has to present additional evidence to prove your claim. This is about to change.

The new threshold is $8,550 beginning September 1, 2013. For high income child support payers this can mean an increase of $210 per month (over $2,500 per year) for cases involving one child. If you are not sure how this affects you or if you need help with your Woodlands Uncontested Divorce or Collaborative Divorce, then give me a call at (832) 592-7913.
